Be More Energy Efficient
Save money while saving the planet
Please see tips below on how to save money on your energy
- One of the biggest energy savers is cavity wall insulation, this reduces heat loss by up to 60% and could save you between £70 - £100 each year.
- If you wash at 40ºC instead of 60ºC you will use a third less energy.
- Turning your thermostat down by 1ºC could reduce your bills by 10%.
- Always turn off lights when leaving a room.
- Close your curtains at dusk to reduce heat escaping through the windows.
- Don’t leave electrical equipment on standby or charging unnecessarily.
- Replacing an old boiler could save up to 20% on your bills while if you replace it with a condensing boiler you could save up to 32%.
- Fitting a jacket to insulate your hot water cylinder will help the water stay hotter for longer therefore reducing energy loss, this could save you approximately £15 per year. Also check the temperature as the hot water should not need to be set higher than 60ºC.
- To be more economical only use your dishwasher or washing machine when you have a full load. If you have an economy cycle use this option.
- Energy efficient light bulbs can save you £68 over the light bulbs lifetime, approximately £9 a year.
Only boil as much water as you need when making hot drinks. - Fix dripping taps and make sure they are turned off as a dripping tap can waste enough water to heat half a bath a week.
